I got it when it first came out because it was allover Youtube, it’s a great foundation especially for problematic skin, the shade range is great since it has several options for people with lighter skin tones which many foundations brands don’t have. It’s preferable to use both a brush and a dry beauty blender, since the foundation is silicone based using a wet beauty blender can make the application process quite uneven/patchy. PS: It’s on sale in Sephora rn so go get it!!

My absolute favorite foundation and i tested quite a lot. It leaves the most natural finish, can be built up without looking cakey and feels so light weight on my face. It definitely needs to be paired with a primer and powder though.

Long lasting fondation and very good for combination and oily skin. Matte finishing with a super natural glow and doesn’t look caky anymore.

    Great for oily skin

“When you have oily skin, it is hard to find THAT foundation that works. This foundation is very breathable, applies beautifully and leaves a semi matte finish. It lasts almost all day without drying out your skin and doesn’t look “”cakey”” at all. You need 2-3 pumps max ,so it will last you a long time. The packaging looks nice but it is very slippery. As soon as I held it, the product fell. Thank God the bottle’s glass is thick enough!!”

    "Lightweight, matte and long lasting!"

“This foundation has such a lightweight feel to it as if it was a tinted moisturizer but with full coverage and most importantly, it doesn’t leave my skin feeling sticky at all! It’s truly long lasting and rarely needs retouching and most importantly doesn’t have that weird smell most foundations have . If you have oily skin like me, this is the best thing about this product: it instantly turns matte on your skin and never leaves oily blotches. If you hate taking pictures only to realize later on how shiny and oily your skin looked then this is the product you need. I can go on and on about this one but let me sum it up by telling you one thing; it’s worth the money, and since a small amount of it is enough to cover your entire face, it will last so think of it as a way to save money on foundation on the long term!”

    "Good coverage, bad packaging"

“This was my first time trying this foundation, as I’m not a huge fan of foundation, especially on a daily basis. The packaging is so cheap, as it’s a silver metallic carton that breaks apart immediately, and referring to it’s relatively high price, the packaging should be much nicer. As for the coverage, it’s really nice, as it goes matte after few seconds of applying it. Therefore, doesn’t make your skin looks oily in pictures. I used the shade 02, as I have a really really white skin.”

OUR EDITORIAL REVIEW

Packaging:

This foundation comes in a transparent glass bottle displaying the brand name and some of the characteristics of the product. The bottle has a pump that enables the distribution of the right amount of fluid. The black cap closes firmly and prevents leakage of the foundation especially if placed inside a makeup pouch.

Available Colors:

The foundation is available in 40 shades, from the very light tones that are adapted to fair complexions to the darker tones for the tanned skin. It is always important to test several colours on your skin before buying to make sure that it blends with your carnation.

Tested Colors:

  • Beige Diaphane, a light colored shade that works for fair skin
  • Beige Nature, a medium colored shade

Scent:

The foundation has a strong perfume; if you tend to dislike strong scents in makeup we recommend that you test it ahead.

Effect:

The claim on the bottle is that the Teint Idole lasts for up to 24 hours, which we found excessive. When we tried it, we noticed that the foundation works well to cover imperfections of an oily skin however it was not long lasting and required the use of blotting papers throughout the day. We noticed the same effect for combination skin, as it was not able to keep the  T-zone matte for a long period; and we had to re-apply another layer of the product on the zone.
For a longer lasting effect, it is best to use it on dry skins; although it has a mattifying effect we did not notice any dry patches following its application. However we noticed when using it on combination to oily skin that it tends to make the T-zone shiny during the day and will only effectively last for a couple of hours. We felt the need to set it with a powder to extend its wear-time or to use a mattifying primer on the oily zones before applying it.
If you have acne-prone or sensitive skin, it is always best to apply the foundation on your skin in thin layers during a certain period. In case there is no evidence of rashes or worsening of the acne this would mean that the foundation is suitable for your skin type.

Application:

Shake well the bottle before using then press the pump to apply a small amount on the back of your hand. Use the foundation brush to spread the product on the face and make sure to begin with thin layers. You can further increase the coverage progressively to prevent the foundation from settling into fine lines.

Price:

The foundation comes in a 30ml bottle and retails at 47 USD (official price on Lancome website). The price is comparable to that of other foundations of same container size from brands such as Shiseido, Yves Saint Laurent and Kat Von D. However if you’re looking for a less expensive alternative, you can find a wide range of products between 20 USD and 30 USD from brands such as Clinique, Vichy and La Roche-Posay.
