Packaging:

Effaclar Duo + by La Roche-Posay comes in a white thin and long cardboard box, with the usual La Roche-Posay branding, white background and blue logo. The details about the product use and its reach are included on the box.
Once you open it, you’ll find the product container as well as a paper brochure, since this is a product sold in pharmacies as well, all the effects and counter-effects are detailed on the sheet. The container is a simple white squeezy-tube finished by a see-through cap closing on a pointy nuzzle that allows the product to be used efficiently. We like the packaging, it is small, discreet and easily packed.

Skin Type:

This La Roche-Posay solution meant for oily and blemish-prone skin. It is suitable for sensitive skin, thanks to the hypoallergenic formula.

Texture and color:

This care is a sort of transparent opaque almost white, cream-gel formula. It’s very light on the skin face, and dries quite quickly.

Smell:

The formula is free from any fragrance, so the Effaclar Duo doesn’t really have a smell. It does have a faint chemical odor which disappears after a couple of seconds.

Application:

Use this product once your face is clean. Take a small amount of cream, the equivalent of the pulp at the tip of the finger. Heat the cream between your fingers to facilitate its penetration without overemphasizing the face. Then, with the hands placed on each side of the face, gently massage your face for about 30 seconds, starting with your forehead, making light movements from the inside to the outside of the face. Do the same on the middle area, always from the nose to the cheeks. Avoid the eye area!
We recommend daily use for those suffering frequently from spots and congested skin. For occasional breakouts, we prefer to use it as a more targeted treatment during those times.

Effect:

Effaclar Duo + is marketed as a solution for zits and breakouts, helping acne-prone skin to reduce the effects of spots. The brand claims to provide complete care reinforced with an anti-imperfection efficacy, to help rapidly clear existing spots, prevent their reappearance and limit the risk of marks, with a noticeable change starting 12h after use.
We found that first of all, it is important to distinguish between skin suffering from acne and skin with occasional breakouts. For strong acne, we found that on repeated use, this product really helps. It acts on spots and blackheads and provides clarity and a smoother surface to the skin. It also allows to reduce the shiny effect of oily skin. In some instances, we even noticed an improvement with hyperpigmentation. Skin is left looking more luminous, alive, and smooth. For occasional spots we would almost call it a miracle product. We all have the occasional breakout, and applying Effaclar Duo + actually really helps get rid of the unwelcome zit.
For dry skin, you will find that you need to use moisturizer afterwards. It is suitable for use both morning and night, but remember to use an SPF during the day as the salicylic acid can make skin more sensitive to sunlight.

Price:

The Effaclar Duo + is priced at 36$ for 40ml quantity, which we found can last between 3 and 6 months, depending on whether you use it twice a day or not. Compared to similar products, it is less expensive than Ducray’s Keracnyl PP Anti-Blemish Soothing Cream, priced at 34$ for 30ml.
