<a href="/brand/kiehls/"><strong> KIEHL’S</strong> </a><br />Instant Renewal Concentrate Mask Image
KIEHL’S
Instant Renewal Concentrate Mask
Packaging: The “Instant Renewal Concentrate Mask” by Kiehl’s is packaged in a green square box with a golden oil drop and plant design on it. The product and brand information are written in white and gold on the box. Texture: The mask is made of material similar to hydrogel and has a soft feel. Skin Type: The mask is suitable for all skin types. Smell: The mask has a mild smell. Application: Remove the secure wrapping and place the upper and lower sections of the mask on a clean and dry face. Using your fingers, gently press the sheet mask on the face and then leave on for 10 minutes. Effect: After testing the “Instant Renewal Concentrate Mask” by Kiehl’s we noticed that the hydrogel sheet is thicker than other masks. But the serum does not drip from the mask because the essence is part of the mask instead of being soaked in it. The mask’s size fits almost all face shapes. It stayed in place for the entire 10 minutes. After 10 minutes, the mask was not completely dry. After removing the mask, there was some oily essence left that we rubbed in on the face and waited for an additional 5 minutes before washing the product off. We found the “Instant Renewal Concentrate Mask” by Kiehl’s as effective in giving a boost of hydration and freshness to the face. After only 1 use, the face looked more radiant and well rested. However, when tested on oily skin, the mask made the skin even oilier. So, we would not recommend it for individuals with oily complexions. Price: The “Instant Renewal Concentrate Mask” by Kiehl’s includes 4 sachets and retails for $32/30mL which is comparable to other products in a similar range such as Origins’ Flower Fusion “Violet Nourishing Sheet Mask” which sells at $7/mask and it is less expensive than other products in a different range like Filagora’s Hydra-Filler Mask which retails at $19/23g mask.

<a href="/brand/nuxe/"><strong> NUXE</strong> </a><br /> Melting Body Scrub Image
NUXE
Melting Body Scrub
Packaging: The “Melting Body Scrub” by Nuxe is packaged in a light lilac squeeze-tube. The cap is dark purple, and the brand and product information are printed in green and purple on the tube. Texture: This product has a grainy texture and a creamy consistency. Smell: The “Melting Body Scrub” by Nuxe has a nice smell. Skin Type: This scrub is designed for all skin types. Application: While showering, apply the “Melting Body Scrub” by Nuxe to moist skin. Massage the scrub gently on the desired areas. If you are using it on your whole body, focus on the driest areas, like the knees and elbows. Rinse the product off thoroughly. Effect: We tested the “Melting Body Scrub” by Nuxe on the entire body two times a week for two weeks. Because of its rich and creamy consistency, the scrub was easy to apply and spread on the body nicely. During application we did not experience any burning sensation on the skin. The product was easily rinsed from the skin without leaving any residue. Additionally, the “Melting Body Scrub” did not dry the skin like other scrubs tend to do. After rinsing, we felt that the legs and arms were softer. However, the effect of the “Melting Body Scrub” by Nuxe was not very noticeable. Because of how gentle the scrub is, there was barely any exfoliating effect on the skin. In fact, the product did not rid the skin fully of dead skin. However, it did leave it silky smooth. Even after continuous application, we did not notice any major difference on the skin aside from it being smoother. Therefore, we would recommend this product for gentle weekly use but not for deep exfoliation. Price: The “Melting Body Scrub” by Nuxe officially retails at $19.7/200 mL which is cheaper than other products in a similar range like Caudalie’s “Crushed Cabernet Scrub” which retails at $38/150 mL and L’Occitane en Provence’s “Almond Delicious Paste” which sells at $44/207 mL.
<a href="/brand/caudalie/"><strong> CAUDALIE</strong> </a><br /> Thé des Vignes Shower Gel Image
CAUDALIE
Thé des Vignes Shower Gel
Packaging: The “Thé des Vignes Shower Gel” by Caudalie comes in a purple squeeze-tube with a transparent dispenser cap. The container has a light pink grape design on it and the brand and product information are printed in pink and white on the tube. Texture: This product has a gel-like texture. Smell: The “Thé des Vignes Shower Gel” has a very nice smell that lingers after application. Skin Type: This product is designed for all skin types. Application: Apply a dollop of this shower gel either directly on the skin or on a loofah. Lather up the product on damp skin and rinse it off thoroughly. Effect: We tested the “Thé des Vignes Shower Gel” by Caudalie almost every day for two weeks. During the shower we noticed that the smell of the product is very nice, and its application is easy. However, a lot of product is needed for the shower gel to lather up. The “Thé des Vignes Shower Gel” is designed without any parabens or harmful ingredients for the skin. The shower gel did not irritate the skin or cause skin outbreaks or redness of any kind. Even when tested on sensitive skin. In fact, it was easy to wash off without leaving any residue. After several applications, we noticed that the skin felt smooth and moisturized. The effects lasted until the next shower: the skin did not dry up or crackle. We even tried a couple of applications without follow-up body lotion. And the effects were still visible: the skin was nourished, and the body felt revitalized because of the freshness of the shower-gel. The downside is the quantity of product needed to lather-up. Otherwise, the “Thé des Vignes Shower Gel” cleaned the skin thoroughly without irritating it and left it smelling great. Price: The “Thé des Vignes Shower Gel” by Caudalie retails at $12/200 mL which is a good price compared to other products in the same range like Kiehl’s “Musk Shower Gel” selling at $20/250 mL and Origin’s “Salt Studs: Foaming Body Wash” which retails at $26/200 mL.

<a href="/brand/kiko-milano/"><strong>KIKO MILANO</strong> </a><br />Pure Clean Eyes & Lips Image
KIKO MILANO
Pure Clean Eyes & Lips
Packaging: The Pure Clean Eyes and Lips makeup remover comes in a liquid form, in a small purple see-through plastic bottle, signed KIKO Milano. The information about the product: what it is, its name and its ingredients are all written down on the bottle in a black light font. The product is quite small, and very practical for travel or even fitting in a small purse for a night out. Skin Type: The product is branded as suitable for all skin types. Don’t use it on the rest of your face, as it’s best to stick to its intended use, especially if you have an oily skin. Smell: The makeup remover has a very neutral smell, almost undetectable. Texture: The texture of this liquid eye and mouth makeup remover is fresh and light Effect: The KIKO Milano Pure Clean Eyes and Lips is a two-phased liquid makeup remover that effectively removes makeup from both the eyes and lips. When applied, it has no greasy effect on the skin, contrary to some eye makeup removers that can feel a bit too oily. For application, shake the bottle for a better result, apply with a cotton pad, gently passing it on your eyes and on your lips (using one side for the eyes and another for the lips or two different pads, is best) then rinse with tepid water. There is no need to press too hard as the remover is quite effective and you do not want to irritate your skin, which is thinner around the eyes and the mouth. The brand claims it is a suitable remover for waterproof makeup, which is true! Once removed, the mouth and eyes areas feel fresher. We did not however feel hydrated, so our advice would be to use a skin care product after removal to nourish both the eyes and lips. For those who prefer to have a very simple makeup removal routine, a more complete product, which includes skin makeup removal (foundation, blush etc.) would be best advised. However, in the summer, when often eyes and lips are the only makeup needed, we would recommend this product. Price: The KIKO eyes and lips makeup remover is a good quality low range product, priced on the official KIKO Milano website at 10$ for 125ml (50ml is also sold). Compared to similar range products, it is a bit more expensive then the Absolute Makeup Remover, Eye &Lip by L’Oréal at 7$ for 125ml but it is cheaper than Sephora’s Extra-Gentle Bi-Phase Makeup Remover For Eyes & Lips.

<a href="/brand/feminic/"><strong> FEMINIC</strong> </a><br /> 7 Gel Douche Intime Image
FEMINIC
7 Gel Douche Intime
Packaging: This product comes in a 200ml opaque white tube with a cover in the shape of the hook. This hook cover is very practical when it comes to hanging the product easily inside the shower without it taking up too much space Smell: The gel intime has a pure antiseptic smell that is actually quite pleasant and not overpowering Texture: The product has the same consistency as a soap-free shampoo: more liquid than thick Application: To use the product, pour a small amount onto the palm of your hand and gently massage the external vaginal areas and then rinse with warm (not hot) water. Effect: The product was used on a daily basis for a period of 10 days and upon application, the gel feels very gentle and soft. It foams easily without excess which allows it to clean the mucous and any other bacteria leaving the area clean and refreshed. The gel is a soap and paraben free & hypoallergenic cleansing solution which contains Calendula – a plant known for its soothing properties – which makes this product suitable for girls and women of all ages as the process maintains the natural balance of the vaginal flora without causing any negative side effect such as irritation, redness or allergies. The product can be used on a daily basis as part of the hygiene routine during the shower. Price: The Gel Intime retails for a price of 16.5$/200ml but it is possible to find other similar products in the market such as Gyn-Phy Toilette Intime Fraicheur de Uriage at 16$/200ml but there are more affordable options as well such as Saforelle Soin Lavant Doux which retails at 6.95$/250ml.
<a href="/brand/la-roche-posay/"><strong> LA ROCHE-POSAY</strong> </a><br /> Effaclar Gel Moussant Image
LA ROCHE-POSAY
Effaclar Gel Moussant
Packaging: La Roche-Posay’s Effaclar Gel Moussant cleanser comes in a fairly large 200 ml pump bottle that stands out with its vibrant blue color. All of the product’s essential information, such as the application method and properties, are printed on the bottle. It also has a secure cap and dispenses a minimal amount of product for optimal use. Smell: Although this cleanser has a sharp, floral smell, it is not irritating at all. Texture: A light-weight, gel formula that spreads effortlessly on the skin. Application: Pump some gel into your palm and lather up with water, then spread it on your face and massage gently. Finally, wash your face well with water. Note that it is well sufficient to apply a minimal amount of foaming gel to the face, which makes this product quite durable. It is also best that you don’t leave the product on your face for over a minute, since it might cause a tingling sensation. Effect: We tried out La Roche-Posay’s foaming gel twice a day, morning and evening, for two weeks on oily, acne-prone skin with excessive sebum production. Once applied, our skin shortly felt refreshed due to the cooling sensation it provided. The skin also appeared clean and purified every time after washing it off, since it removed all the grime that contributes to oily shine. You might notice that it tightens up the skin as well, but the effect wears off after a few minutes. Two weeks upon use, the skin seemed to be less oily throughout the day, having been washed with the cleanser in the morning; which gave way for a stronger makeup fix. Big, open pores gradually became less visible too. In addition to that, massaging the nose area with this product particularly, helped reduce the appearance of black heads. Using this product did not result in any irritation or excessive redness, but helped soothe it down. Keep in mind that this cleanser does not contain any exfoliating beads, as opposed to other cleansers that come with a dual cleansing and exfoliating property to remove dead cells. So if you prefer deep cleansing or effective skin exfoliation, you can incorporate an exfoliating scrub for oily skin into your daily routine. Price: The Effaclar foaming gel retails at 28 USD/ 200 ml and 35 USD/ 400 ml in Lebanon. Its price is comparable to that of other cleansers designed for oily, acne-prone skin such as the Cetaphil Pro Derma Control – Oil Removing Foam Wash for 30 USD per 237 ml, as well as Soskin Gentle Purifying Lotion for 27 USD per 250 ml.
<a href="/brand/kiehls/"><strong> KIEHL’S</strong> </a><br />Calendula Herbal Extract Toner Image
KIEHL’S
Calendula Herbal Extract Toner
Packaging: The “Calendula Herbal Extract Toner” comes in a plastic cylindrical bottle that is transparent and has a white flip-cap. The product information is written in black and golden yellow on a large white label. Because of the transparent nature of the bottle, the bottle appears pale yellow because of the color of the toner itself which can be seen-through. Real calendula petals are also seen floating inside. Skin Type: This toner is suitable for normal and oily skin. Texture: The toner has a watery-runny texture. Smell: The smell of this toner is herbal and flowery, almost like a tea smell. However, the fragrance is mild and goes away a few moments after application. Application: After cleansing the face, apply the “Calendula Herbal Extract Toner” on a cotton pad to dampen it. Then, tap the areas of the face that need toning with the cotton pad. Avoid the eye area and follow-up with a hydrating moisturizer. Effect: The central ingredient in this Kiehl’s toner is Calendula which is another name for Marigold. This plant has been shown to have anti-inflammatory and anti-viral properties and is a popular ingredient in some cosmetic products. We tested this toner on sensitive skin and found that it had no stinging or tingling feeling on the skin. Instead, we found it to have hydrating qualities and an overall soothing effect. After application, the skin felt refreshed. There was no irritation or redness caused by the toner which calmed the skin very nicely. The “Calendula Herbal Extract Toner” is not greasy and regulates the skin’s oil levels by controlling the skin’s oil production. However, given that skin types may vary, this product may not be suitable for acne-prone skin. Even with its alcohol-free feature, the skin may be aggravated by this toner. So, it is best to consult a professional if your skin is prone to acne so as to not irritate it. Price: The “Calendula Herbal Extract Toner” comes in three sizes and prices: $21/125 mL; $35/250 mL; and $62/500 mL. The price is fair considering that other toners run in the sam price range. In fact, Lancôme’s “Tonique Confort Comforting Rehydrating Toner” retails at $26/200 mL and Origin’s “Zero Oil Pore Purifying Toner with Saw Palmetto and Mint” sells for $23/150 mL.

<a href="/brand/sephora/"><strong>SEPHORA</strong> </a><br /> Exfoliating Cleansing Cream with Charcoal Image
SEPHORA
Exfoliating Cleansing Cream with Charcoal
Packaging: The “Exfoliating Cleansing Cream with Charcoal” by Sephora comes in grey tube with light grey polka dots on it and a grey matte label with white and black inscriptions. The product is dispensed through a secure lock on the transparent cap-lid. Texture: The product has a light gel-like consistency with scrubbing beads in it. Smell: The “Exfoliating Cleansing Cream with Charcoal” has a discrete herbal smell to it. Application: Apply the cream on a clean but wet face. Massage gently to release the exfoliating features of the beads. Wait until the cream is somewhat translucent then wash the face gently but thoroughly. The cream can be used for either cleansing or face make-up removing purposes. However, you should avoid the eye-areas while using the “Exfoliating Cleansing Cream with Charcoal.” Effect: We found the “Exfoliating Cleansing Cream with Charcoal” by Sephora to be an effective cleansing cream in the sense that it helped to gently clean the face and open-up the skin’s pores. However, in terms of skin exfoliation, the product’s effect was very minimal. In fact, when applied to normal skin, the T-zone felt less oily but did not completely mattify. The general feel of the face was softer, however, there was no deep detoxifying effect. This may be due to the little concentration of charcoal extract used in the product. For regular use, the product is gentle on the skin because the exfoliating beads are not coarse. If a deep exfoliation is desired then we recommend using more concentrated products that detoxify the skin and get rid of dead skin cells. Price: The “Exfoliating Cleansing Cream with Charcoal” officially sells at $7.5/50 mL which is pricier than other products with similar effects and even larger capacity, such as the “Pure Clay Detoxifying Gel Wash Detox and Brighten” by L’Oréal which retails at $6.9/130 mL and Garnier’s “Skinactive Skin + Shine Control Cleansing Gel” that sells officially at $7.9/150 mL.

<a href="/brand/kiehls/"><strong> KIEHL’S</strong> </a><br />Blue Herbal Spot Treatment Image
KIEHL’S
Blue Herbal Spot Treatment
Packaging: This gel spot treatment, comes in a white carboard box, with blue and brown writing. The box gives useful information to the user about the product, what its use is, its ingredients and the fact that it is part of the brand’s ‘Dermatologist Solutions’ collection. Once the box is open, you’ll find a small white squeeze tube, with a blue cap, additional blue font writing as well as the directions for use. Skin type: This product is suitable for all skin types. Texture: The spot treatment is a partly sticky kind of gel, and it stays wet on your fingers long enough to have time to correctly apply to the spots. Smell: The gel has a faint acidic chemical smell, that quickly goes away once applied to the skin. Application: Before applying, wash your face, so your skin is clean. Twice a day, apply a tiny bit of the gel on each zit, or black spot you want to get rid of, then gently blend into the skin by massaging the applied-upon spot until it is absorbed. Effect: The brand claims that the gel helps reduce the appearance of blemishes, by clearing blackheads, whiteheads and acne blemishes, leaving the skin looking healthier and clear. Our finding is that it does dry up small spots and zits quite quickly! For small zits, it takes approximately between 18 and 30 hours to clear. As for bigger spots, it takes a little longer, around two to three days. One of the advantages, is that it leaves no dark spot on your skin. However, similarly to other spot treatments, the Blue Herbal spot treatment stings a little when applied, but for less than a few seconds. Another possible consequence is dryness, on and around the area of application, when applied too often and for too long. Price: The product comes in one size, containing 15ml, for 18$ as marketed on the brand’s website. The gel is more expensive than pharmaceutical products with similar benefits, such as Galderma’s Cutacnyl Gel, by, priced around 5$ for 40g, but it similar to Clinique’s anti blemish cleaning gel, also priced at 18$ for 15ml on the official website.

<a href="/brand/sephora/"><strong>SEPHORA</strong> </a><br /> Charcoal Nose Strip Image
SEPHORA
Charcoal Nose Strip
Packaging: As expected for a product with charcoal as an ingredient, the nose strip comes in a nice grey flat single use sachet. Everything you need to know, from the name of the product, to the brand, the ingredients and the application advice, is written on the front and the back of the package in black and white fonts. Once you open it, you will find the grey nose strip, attached to a plastic film. It’s very travel friendly and easy to recognise due to the grey colour. Application: Once you’ve cleaned your nose and removed all makeup, humidify your nasal area, and remove the transparent protective film from the patch. Apply the strip to your damp skin, black side against the nose. Moisten the nose again to make sure that the patch adheres perfectly to the contours. Leave it for 15 minutes, then delicately peel it off. Pro tip: Our advice is to use the strip, 1 day prior to the day you want to look perfect, as this is when your nose will look the best. Smell: The Sephora Charcoal nose strip has quite a nice flowery smell. It reminded us of summer! Effect: This nose strip is really efficient. It doesn’t stick to the skin, and doesn’t hurt as it is quite easy to remove. In as little as 15 minutes, skin is left clean, clear, and more radiant. The nose strip is enriched with charcoal extract, which is known for its incredible properties of absorption and cleaning. The charcoal also results in effective blackhead clearing and unclogged pores. Your nose will feel very smooth and rid of all impurities. The strip is also effective in absorbing the oils from your skin, leaving you with a less oily nose. However, it may also cause your skin to dry off, so we recommend the use of a light moisturiser, to rebalance and hydrate. Quality: This product is marketed for 3$ on the official Sephora website. It is a single use product, there is one nose strip per package. Other similar products are a bit less expensive, such as Bioré’s charcoal nose strip, 6-strip package for 8$.

<a href="/brand/sephora/"><strong>SEPHORA</strong> </a><br /> Charcoal Exfoliating Wipes Image
SEPHORA
Charcoal Exfoliating Wipes
Packaging: The “Charcoal Exfoliating Wipes” by Sephora come in a grey heavy-duty paper package with black polka dots on it. The package has a wide white plastic lid for easy access to the wipes and to ensure you can protect the wipes from drying out. The plastic lid has a grey label on it with black and white inscriptions. The wipes themselves are white. Texture: The “Charcoal Exfoliating Wipes” have two sides to them: one is soft (for make-up removal) and the other is coarse (to exfoliate). Smell: The wipes have a herbal and refreshing smell. Skin Type: This product is suitable for all skin types. Effect: We used the soft side of the “Charcoal Exfoliating Wipes” to remove our make-up and the coarse side to exfoliate. The wipes were effective at removing make-up and even long-wear mascara very gently. There was no irritation or redness experienced. The soft side of the wipes successfully cleared the make-up and balanced the oil on the face so there was no longer excess oil, especially on the T-zone. The other side of the wipe which contains exfoliating microbeads felt a bit harsh on sensitive skin if not applied with gentle strokes. However, the wipes left the skin feeling clean and looking radiant without leaving any residue. If you’re not using the wipes for make-up removal, you can start the face cleansing process with the coarse side to exfoliate and then gently pat the face with the soft side of the wipe to soothe. Although the “Charcoal Exfoliating Wipes” by Sephora are designed for all skin types, we would recommend using a gentler exfoliating product for sensitive skin because of the harshness of the exfoliating side of the wipes. Price: The “Charcoal Exfoliating Wipes” by Sephora retail at $7.5/25 wipes. Other products in the same range delivering similar effects such as Garnier’s “Clean+ Purifying Oil-Free Cleansing Towelettes” sell at $5.9/25 wipes and products in a different category also retail at a comparable price such as Clinique’s “Take the Day Off Micellar Cleansing Towelettes for Face & Eyes” which sell at $14/50 wipes.

<a href="/brand/soskin/"><strong>SOSKIN PARIS</strong> </a><br /> Sun Cream Very High Protection SPF 50+ Image
SOSKIN PARIS
Sun Cream Very High Protection SPF 50+
Packaging: The Soskin Paris “Very High Protection SPF 50+” sunscreen comes in a white tube with inscriptions in dark grey and yellow on it. The tube’s cap is yellow and is designed in a way that dispenses the sunscreen mess-free. Texture: This cream has a light and fluid texture. Smell: Upon application, the Soskin Paris “Very High Protection SPF50+” sunscreen has the regular smell of sunscreens which is a bit chemical. However, the smell subsides quickly after application. Effect: We tested the Soskin Paris “Very High Protection SPF50+” in two ways, first as a daily sunscreen and then at the beach. So, for 5 days, we used the sunscreen on the face in the morning before applying make-up on and on the weekend, we applied the sunscreen on the face, neck, and shoulders, at the beach. The cream has a very light texture, so it was easily applicable and was absorbed quickly by the skin without leaving any white traces. It also does not leave the skin sticky which is great for make-up application. Given the texture of the cream, it is suitable for normal, oily and for combination skin. This product did not irritate the skin, it actually soothed it and moisturized it all the while protecting it from the corrosive effects of the sun. In terms of sun protection, this Soskin Paris “Very High Protection SPF50+” sunscreen offers a broad spectrum of UVB-UVA protection. The formula also includes Vitamin E which protects the epidermis- the outer layer of the skin. Soskin specifies that this sunscreen is waterproof, however, the brand also indicates that the sunscreen should be reapplied each time after being exposed to water. For everyday protection this is fine, however, for a day at the beach reapplying after each swim can be a constraint, especially when the general recommended reapplication of sunscreens is every two hours. Price: The Soskin Paris sunscreen officially retails at $24.8/50 mL, a price that is competitive compared to other sunscreens in the same range such Uriage’s “Bariésun Cream SPF50+” which retails at $32/50 mL and Avene’s “Very High Protection 50+ Emulsion” $36/50 mL.
