OUR EDITORIAL REVIEW

Packaging:

The “Velvet Matte Lip Pencil” comes in a stick packaging that is a black matte color. The end of the pencil is color-coded to reflect the shade of the product. Additionally, the brand name and shade details are printed in white all around the pencil. While the packaging is sleek and elegant, the lid almost never sits in place which makes it difficult to carry in a purse without additional secure wrapping.

Colors Available:

This lip pencil comes in 29 highly pigmented colors that vary from light nudes to everyday pinks, and dark undertones of red, brown and purple.

Color Tested:

We tested the lip pencil in “Never Say Never,” a dark lilac pink color.

Texture:

The texture of this product is very creamy.

Smell:

This lipstick doesn’t have a particular smell.

Effect:

We tested the “Velvet Matte Lip Pencil” for a month and found that the crayon design was very convenient and made application simple. The lipstick glides easily on the lips because of its creamy texture and is very lightweight. So, there is no feeling of heaviness on the lips- even after layering.

After application, the lips were saturated with a deeply pigmented color. The lipstick had a smooth velvety matte finish that wasn’t drying. So, it leaves no patchy look on the lips. Instead, the “Velvet Matte Lip Pencil” made the lips looked fuller and well defined.

The lipstick lasted a good while and we didn’t notice any bleeding outside the lip lines. However, it wasn’t transfer-proof. Even with a primer, the lipstick wouldn’t sit in place. We learned that in order for the “Velvet Matte Lip Pencil” to work most effectively, we needed to let the product sit on the lips for 15 to 20mns without eating or drinking. This actually worked in extending the lasting effect of the lipstick and made it transfer-proof.

Price:

The “Velvet Matte Lip Pencil” by Nars Cosmetics sells at an average price of $27/2.4g which is on the pricier end. In fact, Bobbi Brown’s “Art Stick” retails at an average price of $29/5.7g and Anastasia Beverly Hills’ “Pro Pencil” sells at $18/2.4g.
